Kilimanjaro
Mount Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in Africa and the highest free-standing mountain in the world. Located in northern Tanzania, it is one of the most famous trekking destinations, attracting thousands of climbers each year. The mountain features three volcanic cones: Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira, with Uhuru Peak on Kibo being the highest point.
Climbing Kilimanjaro requires no technical mountaineering skills, making it accessible to many hikers. However, the altitude and cold temperatures present significant challenges. The ascent usually takes 5 to 9 days, depending on the route.
Kilimanjaro is home to diverse ecosystems, ranging from tropical forests at the base to alpine deserts and the icy summit. Wildlife includes colobus monkeys, elephants, leopards, and various bird species.
